Since beginning Halifax Farm Environmental Landbank in 2005 and continuing with White Marsh Environmental Landbank in 2008, Roslyn Farm Corporation has created more than 200 wetland banking credits serving the Chowan River Basin Watershed. Wetland Banking is a collaborative effort with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps), Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS), Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF), the Virginia Department of Forestry (DoF) and Roslyn Farm Corporation that creates wetland acreage (wetland credits) from developable property.

With future development restricted thru a variety of easements, these wetland credits can be transferred to other projects within or nearby the Chowan watershed, both public and private, to mitigate wetland areas that are disturbed by development. These mitigated areas are typically smaller and more isolated to the high-quality wetland areas that wetland banks create.

Wetland Banks promote an environmentally rich preserve that encourages hydrology, wildlife habitat and vegetative growth over large areas, typically in excess of 100 acres while allowing opportunities for monitoring and promoting sustainable environmentally friendly projects. These areas are vital habitats for wildlife and as an educational tool for future generations.
